Watch 1,400 People Lose Their Jobs in This Heartbreaking Video
The harsh realities of the economy meet the humanity of needing a livelihood in this clip that will make you glad you weren’t in the room when this news was delivered.
Employees of Carrier Air Conditioner, in Indianapolis, found out this week the company is relocating 1,400 jobs to Mexico. Video of the company announcing the news is as tough to watch as you might think.
No one will lose their jobs at the Indianapolis plant, which employs 1,400 people, right now. The relocation is expect to take place beginning in 2017 and won’t wrap up until 2019.
Still, that’s little solace to the people in this clip (which has some NSFW language), who you can hear express their disappointment and displeasure with the news, broken by an unidentified spokesman.
A spokesman for Carrier did release a statement trying to justify the decision, which said, in part:
Relocating our operations to a region where we have existing infrastructure and a strong supplier base will allow us to operate more cost effectively so that we can continue to produce high-quality HVAC products that are competitively positioned while continuing to meet customer needs.
This decision is difficult and we recognize the impact on employees, their families and the community. We are committed to ensuring that our employees are treated respectfully and to working closely with their representatives throughout this transition.”
The surprising to decision to leave the city did not sit well with the mayor, either, who released a statement pledging to help all those who are losing their jobs secure new employment.
