Behold the Unhealthiest Chain Restaurant Meal for 2016
If you’re counting calories, bring your calculator because you may need help with this quadruple-digit offering.
The meal in question is a sort of Frankenstein’s monster patchwork collection of food, too. That’s because it’s the Build Your Sampler, which is concocted by customers who choose two to five appetizers.
As CSPI notes, these appetizers are not exactly going to help you slim down like a Biggest Loser contestant:
Cheeseburger Egg Rolls. White-flour wrappers stuffed with ground beef and cheddar totals 630 calories.
Brew Pub Pretzels & Beer Cheese Dip. It squeezes 510 calories’ worth of white flour and beer-cheese dip onto your plate.
Chicken Quesadilla. How about (drumroll) more white flour and cheese plus chicken for another 610 calories?
Boneless Wings with Classic Buffalo Sauce. A 440-calorie classic. (Don’t forget to add the 240 calories of bleu cheese dressing.)
Spinach & Artichoke Dip. With tortilla chips, it rings up 960 calories (plus 14 grams of sat fat and 3,980 mg of sodium).
If you’re keeping score, that’s a total of 3,390 calories (you should eat about 2,000 a day total), along with 65 grams of saturated fat and 11,650 milligrams of sodium. We can only hope Applebee’s starts offering a side of defibrillator to help their customers stave off their last breath.
