Watch President-Elect Donald Trump’s Acceptance Speech
Donald Trump will be the 45th president of the United States, pulling off what many consider to be a stunning upset.
In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Trump delivered his victory speech in New York City, which you can see above.
Flanked by running mate Mike Pence and 10-year-old son, Barron, the real estate mogul-turned-soon-to-be-commander-in-chief delivered an upbeat speech in which he complimented his opponent, Hillary Clinton (who may win the popular vote, but fall short in the electoral college) — a stark contrast from the negativity that both candidates employed during the contentious debate.
Trump’s speech was filled with hope, much to the delight of his supporters on hand.
In a campaign that created a chasm among the populace of the country, Trump was criticized for his bold talk and fear-mongering, but he tossed that aside. “Now it is time for America to bind the wounds of division, have to get together,” he said. “To all Republicans and Democrats and independents across this nation, I say it is time for us to come together as one united people.”
He also deflected attention from himself when he said, “As I’ve said from the beginning, ours was not a campaign but rather an incredible and great movement, made up of millions of hard-working men and women who love their country and want a better, brighter future for themselves and for their family. It is a movement comprised of Americans from all races, religions, backgrounds, and beliefs, who want and expect our government to serve the people — and serve the people it will.”
He also emphasized the theme of making America great again. “We must reclaims our country’s destiny,” he declared. He also pledged to deal fairly with all nations, allaying concerns the global community may have about a Trump presidency.
