A woman in Cedarville, N.J. is up in arms after her eighth-grade son came home with a homework assignment asking how he'd react if he contracted herpes after a one-night stand.

The assignment at Myron L. Powell Elementary School came not in sex education, but a language arts class and laid out a scenario in which a student went to a party, got drunk, had a one-night stand and then got herpes.

Parents had not been told in advance of the subject matter.

As parent Amy Loper said, "This is vulgarity at the utmost." Loper also says she was told the assignment is part of the school's core curriculum and works in tandem with a book students use called The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.

The school has not commented on the matter.

What do you think? Is the assignment out of line? Is something like this better off addressed in sex education? Do parents have a right to be concerned?
