Massive Tuna Recall Covers More Than 33,000 Cases

There are not one, but two, tuna recalls you need to know about.

Bumble Bee has recalled 31,579 cases of its Chunk Light tuna due to “deviations [that] were part of the commercial sterilization process and could result in contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens, which could lead to life-threatening illness if consumed.”

No one has reported becoming ill due to the problem. The cans in question were sent out nationwide.

Coincidentally, Tri-Union Seafoods LLC followed this news a few hours later with its own recall for Chicken of the Sea tuna cans:

This recall has been initiated because the product may have been undercooked due to an equipment malfunction, which was uncovered during a routine inspection. These deviations were part of the commercial sterilization process and could result in contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens, which could lead to life-threatening illness if consumed.

No one has reported any illness in connection with the tuna in question. The recall affects 2,745 cases (or roughly 107,000 cans). The FDA has a release for each recall if you need more information.
