Jared Fogle, the longtime spokesman and face of Subway, received a sentence of 15 years, eight months following his pleading guilty to various child pornography and prostitution charges in August. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt issued her decision, which also includes a $175,000 fine, Thursday afternoon in Indianapolis, going beyond the 12-and-a-half years the prosecution had recommended.

After the sentencing, Fogle spoke briefly to the court. “I so regret that I let so many of you down,” he said. “I want to redeem my life. I want to become a good, decent person. I want to rebuild my life.”

Fogle’s plea deal included “one count each of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and distribution and receipt of child pornography.” In August Fogle admitted to having sex with two prostitutes under the age of 18 and also to possessing child pornography, which he received from Russell Taylor, who worked at one of Fogle’s charitable organizations. Fogle also agreed to pay a million dollars each to 14 of his victims.

A doctor who examined Fogle prior to his plea arrangement found that Fogle suffered from “hypersexuality, mild pedophilia and alcohol abuse and dependency.”
