DiGiorno’s Tweet Riles Up Domestic Violence Victims
The Ray Rice scandal has once again put the issue of domestic at the forefront of the American consciousness. Apparently, DiGiorno Pizza wanted to take part in the conversation, too.
DiGiorno committed a pretty ugly faux pas when it decided to go on Twitter and use the hashtag #WhyIStayed — unaware the hashtag was being used by victims of domestic violence to explain why they stayed with their partner (DiGiorno’s tweet was removed, but you can see a screenshot here). It’s right up there with Fox News’ questionable joke about taking the stairs.
DiGiorno’s crack social media team quickly tried to make amends for the slip-up and offered apologies:
A million apologies. Did not read what the hashtag was about before posting.

@DiGiornoPizza can you tell us how this happened? was it an intern who sent the tweet or a paid employee who is clueless?
